We rented David Lynch's Mulholland Drive this weekend, and ... what the hell was that all about? I missed it when it first came out, even though I am kind of a Lynch fan. I liked Twin Peaks (although not enough to be obsessed wit it like the folks who got press for their dedication - I even missed an episode or two), and I even like Mulholland - the noir effects that Lynch plays with are my kind of stuff. I tried watching the flick twice, but that didn't help, and finally I decided a review I read was right - it's about the journey, not the destination. And it was an entertaining trip.
I saw Bono recite this on an Elvis special the other night, and it was pretty good. I've never been a big Elvis fan, but as John Prine says, "50 million Elvis fans can't be wrong." I do have my occassional doubts, though...
While all the rockers that were interviewed waxed about how great Elvis was because of his sexuality and creativity, and how he made rock & roll, and what a total genius he was, my man John Lennon was, as usual, the voice of reason. Talking about the first time he saw news clips of all the screaming girls swooning for Elvis, John says "I thought, now there's a good job."
I got Over the Counter under way. The blog looks good, and I submitted a column yesterday, so that project is under control. I need to contact Crytech about cgi scripts to get the Respect Montana site going, then I need to really re-work this one. I don't like the look, and it's really piecemealed together in ways that don't fit. One more weeek of java, then I can work on this without feeling guilty.
